Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has once again stressed that Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara are capable of playing with each other as they are compatible.
Muller has faced the first serious threat for his first team spot since becoming a professional. He has been unable to reproduce the same kind of form as he did a few years ago. This compounded with former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara being an excellent form, while playing in the hole behind Robert Lewandowski, has reduced the number of first-team opportunities for Muller. Muller watched Alcantara perform exceptionally well in the 5-1 win over Arsenal.
The Champions League victory has put Bayern Munich on the verge of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the competition. Now, however, focus shift back to the league title. Bayern have a seven-point advantage in the race for the Bundesliga title.
Despite this extremely comfortable advantage, manager Carlo Ancelotti remains concerned about the upcoming game against Hertha Berlin. He says that the opposition are extremely strong and will provide a strong test. RB Leipzig have emerged as the surprise contenders for the title alongside Bayern.
After staying toe to toe with the giants until the winter break, RB Leipzig have fallen behind in recent weeks. Bayern have failed to win one of the last nine games.
"I do not see Thiago as an alternative for Muller. Thiago is a very different player. They might both play against Hertha. I could rotate some players compared to the game against Arsenal.I can only field 11 players, so that means some players will have to settle for a spot on bench every now and then. But they are all dealing with it in a very professional matter. Thomas was very happy after his goal against Arsenal, just like everyone else at Bayern,” said Ancelotti.
