On Tuesday will see two top European teams in Bayern Munich and Lazio go head to head in the first leg of their last-16 knockout fixture in the UEFA Champions League. Italian Serie A side Lazio finished second in their Champions League group stage, behind German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in Group F. Their second-place finish ensured that Lazio sealed qualification to the knockout stages of the European competition for the first time since the year 2000.

“Bayern Munich on the other hand comfortable topped their group (A) after yet another remarkable Champions League group stage campaign. Lazio started their season on a rather slow note but have moved into the top four after their 1-0 win over Sampdoria on Saturday. The league clash was one they won deservedly after taking total control of the game, only they could not find enough space to score more than the one goal they scored.

Although they finished their group stage fixtures unbeaten, Simone Inzaghi's men had to toil hard to secure the second spot and also survived a scare against a 10-man Club Brugge side who proved to be stubborn and almost turned the tie on its head in their final group stage clash.

“Bayern Munich are not just the reigning UEFA Champions League holders, they are also on a 17-game unbeaten run in the competition and even though they look like they will ease through this tie with a win, given that the game will be played at the Stadio Olympico, Lazio may prove to be a tough test.
