NATIONS LEAGUE: SABITZER FEATURED AGAINST FRANCE

Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer made the Austria starting XI for the UEFA Nations League Group A1 clash with hosts France on Wednesday night. The Bayern Munich star was in action for Austria, but he was unable to stop his team from losing 2-0 to the reigning world champions.

Sabitzer and Austria started the France game earlier this week in third place on the Group A1 log before the defeat ensured that they are now the bottom team ahead of the final set of games in the group next week. Bayern Munich star Sabitzer scored the third and final goal of the game as Austria thrash Croatia 3-0 away from home for their only win in the group till date. He had one goal in four Group A1 games before the France game. At the end of the latest meeting with the French team, his goal tally was extended to one goal in five Group A1 games as he failed to score during the game played at Stade de France in Saint-Denis. As a matter of fact, he didn't last the entire duration of the game as he was subbed off in the second half.

The Austrians were able to hold France in the first half, but were unable to repeat the same feat in the second half thanks to the goals from star player KylianMbappe and Olivier Giroud within the space of nine minutes. The goal from Paris Saint Germain (PSG) attacker Mbappe arrived on 56 minutes before it was doubled by AC Milan star Giroud who's now within two goals of the all-time leading goalscorer’s record as far as the France senior national team is concerned. He is on 49 goals, while record holder Thierry Henry is on 51 goals.
France are up to third in Group A1 with five points from five games after the win over Austria, while the Austrians replace them in fourth spot with four points from five game. Denmark are in second spot with nine points, while Croatia are at the summit with ten points.
