The 26-year-old joined the Bavarian giants from Los Blancos on a two-year loan contract this month with the option to make the deal a permanent one. Rodriguez was used sparingly under Zinedine Zidane during the previous campaign as he played second fiddle to the likes of Isco, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alonso and Lahm rejected the chance to coach under Carlo Ancelotti

Xabi Alonso and Philip Lahm both are iconic figures of Bayern Munich that have helped the German club in lifting various pieces of silverware and coincidentally played their final professional competitive game on May 20 of 2017 during a 4-1 triumph of Bayern Munich over SC Freiburg.

Even though both retirees hung up their playing boots, the head coach Carlo Ancelotti wanted to keep on working closely with Alonso as well as Lahm and the Italian coach recently stated that he actually offered them the chance to become assistant managers and to start learning more in depth about the world of coaching but neither of them were interested as they both declined.

Former Bayern Munich boss urges club to secure Alexis Sanchez Signing

Former Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has urged his former club to make a move for Alexis Sanchez before their European rivals pounce for the Arsenal forward.

The Chile international grabbed 30 goals and 15 assists for the Gunners last term as they celebrated FA Cup success. Despite this, he is reluctant to prolong his stay beyond next season with the club failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years. Manchester City and Chelsea are the other suitors for Sanchez this summer, and it is suggested that the 28-year-old could push for a reunion with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

BAYERN SHOULD GET READY FOR MOMENT OF TRUTH

With Xabi Alonso and club icon Phillip Lahm hanging their boots at the end of the just completed season, bundesliga giants Bayern Munich can be said to have had two large chinks appear in their armour.

In the cut-throat profit-crazy brand of football ran nowadays, the pressure to replace two veterans as quickly as possible are no doubt knocking at the door steps of the decision makers of the Bavarian club.

Why did Bayern Munich fail against Real Madrid?

Bayern Munich have one of the best squads in the entirety of Europe. In fact, they probably have the best squad in the world. With players such as Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben, Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, Thiago and Mats Hummels, Bayern are certainly a match for the strongest teams anywhere on the planet.

However, Bayern still came short against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti’s side lost the first leg of the tie 2-1 at the Allianz Arena and the second leg 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu after extra time. This means that for the fourth successive season, the Bavarian giants have failed to progress to the final of the Champions League.

This second leg defeat in the Champions League quarter-final was extremely disappointing for the German club, as they felt that they were the wrong end of several poor refereeing decisions. Bayern Munich made an exit from the competition after the 6-3 loss. The team had earlier suffered a 2-1 loss at the Allianz Arena. Yet, Bayern did produce one of the best performances, but it was not enough against a Madrid team, which were termed as lucky.

Carlo Ancelotti Admits Bayern’s Struggles Against Frankfurt

Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Bayern Munich were lucky to get a 2-0 advantage over Frankfurt going into the halftime.

The club managed a 3-0 win over the German outfit in order to retain top spot in the German Bundesliga. However, Bayern Munich were second best in the game and it was only after these goals that they tightened the grip. This was the fifth consecutive win for Bayern in all competitions. Champions League Preview: Bayern Munich v Real Madrid

Despite the early promises of RB Leipzig and the strength of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich seem set to win the Bundesliga title this season. With a sizeable lead at the top of the league table at the moment, Bayern should wrap up the championship in a matter of weeks.

The main target now for Bayern is to win the Champions League. The Bavarian giants last claimed Europe’s premier club competition in 2013 and reached the semi-finals in each of the past three seasons. Could Bayern under Carlo Ancelotti do the same this campaign?
